Can bamboo flooring be sanded & refinished?
Generally speaking bamboo flooring is possible to sand and varnish. However, we would always aim to do a free site survey before we can advice on the state of your particular flooring and its potential for restoration. Because restoration of bamboo flooring require a fair bit of sanding skills and knowledge, we would always recommend the use of a professional floor sanding company like Wood Floor Sanding instead of DIY to ensure best results.
What does polish mean and can it be done on engineered flooring?
The first thing that you need to be aware of is that cleaning and polishing service is not applicable for floors which are badly damaged and where the existing sealant has worn out. It is rather a service that is performed on wooden floors which are in a relatively good condition without any parches that do not have any sealant left and is merely done to provide an extra coat and extra protection to the existing sealant. By doing this, cleaning and polishing can prolong the life of varnished floors before they need to be sanded and revarnished. Cleaning and poslishing can be done on any wooden floors which have been sealed with varnishing, including engineered wood flooring, parquet flooring and any solid wood floorings. Having said that, if the sealant on your floors has already worn out, then cleaning and polishing will not be possible and in this case a torough sanding and revarnishing will be required in order to completely remove the existing sealant and to apply new varnish on top of the sanded floors.
What Is the difference between gap filling and strip filling?
Gap filling is part of our wood floor restoration services. It is common for gaps to appear between the floorboards or between the parquet blocks over time. The smaller gaps are relatively easy to rectify by the gap filling service, where a mixture of clear resin and saw dust, which is collected from the sanding process is used to fill in the gaps. Nevertheless, it should be noted that bigger gaps are trickier to fill. This is where strip filling comes to help. Strip filling uses small pine slivers between the floorboards and goes together with resin & saw dust filler. While this is often an effective method, it is not ideal solution for larger areas as it can spoil the look of the timber floors. Important note for both gap filling methods is that they are dependant on the solidness of the floorboards. Stability of both depends on absence of movement in the floorboards or in the joists that hold the floorboards. Therefore, gap filling for floorboards is excluded from the service guarantee of flooring companies.
